The week of November 27th was an exciting week for the students in Mrs. Papas' physical education classes! The First Tee of Greater Akron coaches, Fred Baldwin, Roland Pennington, and Mike Clark were so kind to come to spend the week at Harris-Jackson, and they brought plenty of golf fun with them!  For many students, it was their first time ever experiencing any type of golf. Many students commented that they enjoyed being able to try golf for the first time, and said they would love to do it again sometime. Mrs. Papas is planning to have them come back every year to expose the students to the fun game of golf!

The children were able to use kids putters to play fun games such as "Hungry Hungry Hippos” golf style, "Golf Tug O’ War", and "Golf Baseball.”  In addition, the coaches brought a giant sized inflatable dart board, and the students used kids' wedge clubs to launch the velcro balls into the air and hit the target. We even had a few bullseyes!! At First Tee, the coaches seamlessly integrate the game of golf with a life skills curriculum to create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience. We are grateful to First Tee of Greater Akron for reaching out to Harris-Jackson and creating an experience of a lifetime for our students, exposing them to golf, a true lifetime sport.
