On May 2nd, nearly 300 students, family members, staff members and friends from the community gathered as one Harris-Jackson family. The purpose was to celebrate the many different cultures shared by Harris-Jackson students, their families, and staff members. The event was an absolute success, and quite enjoyable as well.
There was plenty to see and learn about. Display tables were decorated with information, photos, maps and artifacts representative of cultural groups. Many families stopped off in our gymnasium where they were able to participate in multicultural games. In the cafeteria, there was a running slideshow with additional information shared with families as the dined together. The Slides Presentation shared information about dress, food, language, religion, celebrations, and locations around the world where different cultures are found and practiced. Families were also treated to lots of different foods from all around the world. That’s not all! Fifth grader, Priyanka Mainali, treated us to a Nepali dance. We also had African song and dances shared with us. To finish off the evening, Deborah Athey, from MyLifeWerks Insurance Services, was here to present bikes to two fortunate Harris-Jackson students as part of a prize drawing.
