There Was an Old Lady...

Student selecting a free book

Oh the weather outside was frightful at times last Thursday. However, our Harris-Jackson Literacy Night was still enjoyed by all who attended. Families were invited to the building to meet with teachers and staff about their students' progress and to pick up interim reports. Nearly 50 families (120 attendees) also chose to stop by and visit us in the gymnasium for our literacy event. We're so thankful for Mrs. Yarian (our Title 1 Coordinator) for organizing such a nice event for our families. We're also thankful for Mrs. Yarian, Mrs. Short, Mrs. North, and Mrs. Sheppard for helping with setup and/or providing support during the event.

During the event, families completed a story walk and read the story, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves."

Afterwards, families were able to complete four different activities based on the story. Activities included a leaf rubbing activity, a sequencing (putting the story in order) activity, a Build-a-Scarecrow activity, and a puzzle.

Students were also able to pick out a free book donated by Mrs. Colville-Hall from the University of Akron. Students and families also enjoyed snacks from the snack table and/or freshly popped popcorn from Mrs. Sheppard!
