Children must be five years old on or before September 30 to register for kindergarten.
Teaching children at an early age is critical to their success in school. Akron Public Schools offers FREE all-day kindergarten with small class sizes in all its elementary schools as well as FREE breakfast and lunch. All-day kindergarten is a unique option not offered at other districts in the area.

Registering for kindergarten
City of Akron residents may register their children:
- At their assigned school during spring registration
- At Central Registration (70 N. Broadway, Akron, OH 44308)
- During the two weeks prior to the start of school in the fall
Enrollment and registration
Items needed for registration
- Child’s birth certificate
- Child’s Social Security card
- Child’s immunization records
- Parent/guardian identification
- Proof of residency
- Proof of custody (if parents are divorced/separated)
Required immunizations
- Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertusis, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Poliomyelitis, Hepatitis B, Varicella
Immunizations may be scheduled with your family physician. The Akron Health Department offers a walk-in clinic at the Merriman Clinic (66 Merriman Road) Monday, Tuesday, Thursday (8-11 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.). No appointment is necessary. Shots are $12 each. No one will be denied services due to an inability to pay. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bring your child’s immunization records.
